    OpenAI to introduce AI app monetization with GPT Store

    Artificial intelligence (AI) firm OpenAI has commenced plans to introduce a way for generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) creators to monetize their personalized AI systems. OpenAI will roll out the personalized AIs in its newly launched GPT Store, which is a marketplace for personalized AI applications.

    The company announced its GPT monetization plans alongside the launch of the GPT Store in a blog post on Wednesday, Jan 10. “In Q1 (2024), we will launch a GPT builder revenue program. As a first step, U.S. builders will be paid based on user engagement with their GPTs,” it read. The publication further stated that the store will initially be rolled out to users on paid ChatGPT plans.

    The GPT Store is located within the ChatGPT website and is a place for users to discover and build GPTs or AI customized for tasks like teaching math or designing stickers. The GPT Store is divided into eight sections: top picks, Dall-E, writing, productivity, research and analysis, programming, education and lifestyle.

    Specialized GPTs in Dall-E create images from ideas, while the writing section refines text. Productivity enhances efficiency, and research and analysis GPTs assist with information interpretation. Programming supports coding and learning, the education section explores ideas and revisits skills, and the lifestyle section provides tips on travel, workouts, style and food.

    When downloading the WebGPT, the GPT requires the user to sign up for ChatGPT Plus. The Microsoft-backed startup announced the GPT Store in November 2023 at its first developer conference. It was initially set to go live later that month.

    According to Reuters, OpenAI postponed its GPT Store launch in December, stating it was improving GPTs based on feedback. The delay coincided with the unexpected removal and subsequent reinstatement of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman over employee concerns.

    In addition, on Jan. 10, OpenAI announced the launch of ChatGPT Team, a paid version for companies, ensuring private usage at work. Priced at $25 to $30 per user per month, it segregates a company’s data to maintain confidentiality.
